Asics Glideride shoe review

ASICS continues to produce its stable of running shoes that many swear by (eg. GT2000, Nimbus, Cumulus & the Kayano), which have not changed drastically over the last several years. However, Asics are also integrating new running shoe technology into some new lines of footwear. One of those includes their GUIDESOLE technology and is utilized in the Metaride, the high stack Glideride, and the "closer to traditional" Evoride.

Here Manning gives his take on Glideride...

The Asics Gilderide has been designed to make running, jogging and even walking easier on the tissues of the feet and for the user to conserve energy while using them. Potentially this may enable a runner to run faster! This is mainly due to a firm plate within the midsole with a high upwards angle at the front of the shoe. Although it may look like the toes will be pointing upwards, the foot will actually sit quite flat inside while the shoe creates a forward propelling rocker motion allowing the body to roll forward and easier for the foot to push off. The thick and laterally flared midsole has 2 layers of cushioning incorporating the firm plate creating a soft but also responsive/bouncy feel whilst feeling stable and light -a feeling that will literally "put a spring in your step".

The potential decrease in the stresses placed on the feet and ankles that the Glideride claims, means it could be a great shoe for people that are eager to be active outdoors but are limited by pain from a range of varying conditions that we see daily. Such conditions may include those with forefoot pain, big toe joint athritis, morton's neuromas or people who have limited ankle joint range of motion.

The shoe is available in a men's and women's standard (D) widths only. The soft and stretchy upper with the broad and deep toe box should be able to accommodate a range of foot shapes and sizes whilst still feeling secure.
